1997 Toyota RAV4 Review, RSMorris, Anchorage, Alaska
Add Your Review! 138,0000 MILES / RAV4
| | Model | RAV4 | | | What things have gone wrong with the car? | 20-21 mpg city / 21-22 mpg highway
75,000 miles stalling and rough idle - Toyota dealer/garage replaced timing belt. Noise still came from somewhere inside engine compartment. Garage couldn't find noise. ?
95,000 miles - picked up stray lost dog. Dog chewed seatbelt in half. New seatbelt $145.00! - dog found new home.
125,000 miles broke engine belt. Independant mechanic (non-Toyota) said the noise was the water pump and timing belt slapping on casing. Replaced belt, water pump and timing belt. First time in 50,000 miles engine ran quietly. Amazing!
125,500 - steering started squeeling. Mechanic didn't tighten steering belt correctly.
138,000 a nuisance oil drip - can't locate where it is coming from. | | | General comments? | The size of this year of RAV4 is perfect! I'm a short person, 5'-0" to be exact, and the RAV4 has been a great car for me. I have hauled tons of stuff in it from 3 medium dogs to a rototiller.
Wouldn't like to stay with RAV4 but the designers hosed the new design. Who says bigger is alway better. | | | Engine and transmission | Automatic | | | Performance | 3+ | | | Reliability | 4 | | | Comfort | 5 | | | Dealer | 2+ | | | Running costs (higher is cheaper) | 5 | | | Distance when acquired | 2,500 | | | Most recent distance | 16.3 miles | | | Previous car | Corolla Stationwagon | | | First year of ownership | 1997 | | | Most recent year of ownership | 2006 |
